  • It is common to feel a variety of impacts when you first start practicing yoga. As the body takes some time to adjust to a new form of exercise, it is not uncommon for some students to experience fatigue and new areas of muscle soreness. While for some a feeling of fatigue is normal in the first few weeks, others report extra energy and exhilaration. Each person is different. For all new practitioners, it is recommended that you increase your daily water intake considerably and be well-hydrated throughout the day. You’ll find this easy to accommodate, as you will crave water. Once you’ve practiced for a while, your hydration will balance out and the heat will be less noticeable. Many practitioners who had difficulty adjusting to the heat in the beginning come to enjoy the heat after the first few weeks or regular practice.

  • Nausea and dizziness are common and temporary. These symptoms are normally signs of dehydration and/or lack of breath. It can also be a sign of detoxification, in other words it’s not always a bad thing!

Be sure to drink plenty of water before class and be conscious of your breathing during your practice.

  • Absolutely. You did it right. The best thing to do is practice the following day. Your muscles and joints will thank you. Depending on your level of fitness, when you begin to practice you may feel especially tired after your first few classes. This is also quite normal. Your body is cleansing itself as a result of the yoga and pilates practice – don’t be afraid of this process. Keep coming, and after a few weeks, you will find the sensation passes, replaced by a new sense of vitality in your body and mind.

  • The heat is a valuable element for the opening of the body. Think of a piece of steel, we melt it before we bend it. Same concept for your body. By heating the body first, muscles and joints are able to move with less resistance becoming less susceptible to injury. The heat also warms the blood which helps with the circulatory system- one of the bodies most important systems for overall health and vitality. When the blood is cold it becomes thick and viscous which results in stagnancy. When we heat it up it becomes thin, which helps with moving oxygenated blood to vital organs, glands, muscle groups, bone joints, and all areas in the body. The Heat is a crucial component to what makes our classes therapeutic, safe, and healing.

In addition, the heat is a catalyst for the body's purification system allowing it to cleanse through the skin, the bodies largest organ. With increased sweat, more toxins are released.

  • The only way to know if yoga and pilates is for you is to come and try it. Our instructors will guide you and help you to work safely within your own personal limits. We believe this is the most effective life-changing method of yoga – come in, take a few classes and see how it feels to you. There is a very small number of conditions and medicinal regimens for which the heated room is contraindicated, most typically antiretroviral regimens and MS. Talk to your doctor if you are taking HIV medications before beginning your practice.
